“Recent studies hint of yoga’s ability to reduce stress and improve memory function and to increase the cognitive functioning of elderly nursing home residents”
-Yoga International.
The experience of living with dementia is a public health challenge of our age and can be frightening and disorienting.
Our webinar explores a working model to increase access to the benefits of Yoga for people with dementia and carers in the community, care and residential settings.
These are some of the benefits your clients with dementia may experience as a result of a practising yoga regularly:
Enhanced Cognitive Function: Yoga can improve focus, memory, and executive functions, stimulating cognitive activity.
Reduced Agitation and Improved Mood: The calming effect of yoga can help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation, improving overall mood.
Increased Physical Health: Regular practice enhances flexibility, balance, and strength, reducing the risk of falls.
Better Sleep: Yoga promotes better sleep patterns through physical exertion and relaxation techniques.
Social Interaction: Group classes provide social engagement, helping to reduce feelings of isolation.
Stress Reduction: Breathing exercises and meditation in yoga are effective for managing stress, improving overall health.
Improved Body Awareness: Increases body awareness, beneficial for spatial orientation and physical coordination.
These benefits make yoga a potentially useful adjunct therapy for managing symptoms of dementia, enhancing well-being, and improving the quality of life for those affected.
